Pinterest continues to be a top social media network. The platform is the 14th largest social network in the world, boasting 459 million active monthly users. For businesses, Pinterest is a great place to get free traffic and to post engaging content.
Unlike other platforms, Pinterest is a visual search engine. While common marketing strategies can be applied, there are some different techniques to use.
Keep reading to learn about four tips to increase your Pinterest click-through rate (CTR).
What Is a Pinterest Click-Through Rate?
Click through rate (CTR) is the number of users who click the link in your pin divided by the number of people who can view the pin. While numbers vary by industry, a good CTR for a promoted pin should be no less than 0.55%.
With a good click-through rate, you’re more likely to increase engagement, impressions, leads, and sales.

Top 4 Ways to Increase Your CTR
Creating a success pin isn’t as easy as you may think. On a platform where millions of pins are created each day, it’s important to know the ins and outs of making your content engaging and unique.
Here are the top four ways to boost your Pinterest CTR.
1. Create Several Designs of The Same Pin
Everyone has their own visual preferences. Some people like real-life photos while others prefer colorful backgrounds and eye-catching fonts. As with anything marketing related, it’s important to test to see which pin designs best resonate with your target audience.
For every link that you want to promote, create at least 5-10 designs. Run all of them and see which designs are the most successful. From there, you can re-run these ads and tailor future ads to look similar to the top performing pins.
When posting new pins, be consistent and always aim to post no less than 25 pins each day. This way your content is more likely to be seen by your audience.
2. Don’t Give the Answer
The goal of your pins is to get clicks. When designing a pin, it must be visually appealing enough for the user to want to click to learn more information. If your pin gives the answer on the pin, there is no reason for a user to click to get more details.
Create pins that talk about a topic without saying much. Some top examples include:
- How I paid off my student loans while blogging
- How to lose 5lbs in 10 days
- 10 habits of successful people
- How to make $1,000+ a day using Pinterest
This text entices readers to click to learn more about the topic.
3. Great Text Should Accompany a Great Visual
While Pinterest is heavily reliant on visual content, it still functions like a traditional search engine in that it uses keywords. Pinterest not only reads keywords that are included on the picture, but viewers are reading them as well.
To increase the number of clicks that your pins get, pay close attention to the description. Use text to your advantage by emphasizing the main keyword in bold or by using a dominant font. Get creative and use 2-3 fonts in the pin.
And most importantly, make sure that the text size is sufficient for users on all screen sizes.
4. Make Your Pins Eye-Catching
When competing for the first page, your pins need to be eye-catching and unique. Chances are that there are others who have posted content like yours. This means your pins need to stand out from the dozens of others on the page.
Some of the top ways to make your pins pop on the page including:
- Using big letters
- Choose a great image (stock images are free!)
- Use an image that’s relevant to the topic
Designing your pins using the right background and font are important factors in increasing your Pinterest click through rate.
